Wood Mask
Is my Science fair project good…Do you have any suggestions…..?
Problem: How well do different types of wood absorb water?
Materials
4 plastic cups and holder
gram scale
paper towel
labels
4 pieces of different types of wood
masking tape
1)Put the strips of wood into the plastic cups and tape them so they stand straight up.
2)Label the plastic cups according to what type of wood they are.
3)Weigh each of the 4 different plastic cups with the different types of wood in them.
4)Pour the same amount of water in each of the plastic cups
5) Let everything sit out for 7 days (1 week).
6)Pour out the water and weigh the plastic cup and wood strip.
7)Subtract what the difference was before it absorbed water and then after it had absorbed the water and figure out which type of wood absorbed the most water.
Is it good?Well written?
Feel free to make any additions or some suggestions to what I already have so far.
PS – this is a seventh grade science fair project
should their be any more steps to the procedure etc.
A great start for 7th grade. Improvment would be to do repeat trials, such as doing each wood-type four times. You would also want to find out the percentage mass gained, not just the raw numbers. Then average the four cups for each wood to find the average mass gained. Then compare the four types of wood.
In your procedure, the first step would be to mass the wood before putting them in the cups. That way, you can subtract the masses later.
